PLANNING ADVICE

sIMPLE WAYS TO GET WHAT YOU EXPECT WHEN PLANNING A DESTINATION WEDDING

Answers to #1 Fear That Couples Have - What If Wedding Planner Does Something We Don't Want

One of the questions we get most often is how to plan a destination wedding that is based on a personal style and vision. We have a lot of posts and articles about it on our Instagram, but sometimes people still get stumped on how to begin or what they should even be sharing with their wedding planner. If you’re newly engaged, it can be a bit overwhelming.

Planning your destination elopement doesn’t have to be hard. But don’t forget that if you’re working with a team of professional vendors, you should be connecting with them! Simply allow them to get to know more about you and your expectations.

SIGNATURE STYLE

Before you even hire a planner, find out a little more about their signature style and aesthetics.

Think about how this style matches your wedding vision. If you're a fine art bride with an artistic taste, a planner working with pastel colors and low contrast soft romantic portfolio will be perfect for you. Once you figure out their strengths and approach, you'll have a better sense of ways they'll be able to help with your wedding planning.

SHARE YOUR STORY

A wedding planner will ask you a lot of questions because they want to know more about YOU!

It can seem really awkward to share photos of yourself or your outfits or tell people things about you that seem basic or not that interesting...but I promise that the wedding planner wants to know more about you as a couple.

Don't forget to search for these pictures and send them to your wedding planner:

-Some nice pictures of you together (doesn't have to be professional)

-Individual portraits or selfies

-What type of style do you like - is it glamourous, elegant, colorful, unexpected, or classic?

-Attire that you are planning to wear on your wedding day

-Something that is a big NO for you

-A fun picture of your pet

...or anything else you can think of.

The important thing is to share the things that are unique to your story as well as the things that can help your wedding planner get to know YOU better.

LOOK FOR INSPIRATION

You should definitely include some pictures from Pinterest or Google that tell your wedding planner what exactly is that you like. But you should also be sharing about WHY do you like this particular style or idea, so that wedding planner can see how they can help you with suggestions and advice on the right thing. You don’t need to spend hours creating a whole mood board, but make sure people know what it is that you want to have for your wedding.

Communication Is Everything

Make sure to include comments on what you like about the photo you sent as a reference. If it’s a photo of a couple kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower, the planner might think you love the location, but in reality, it was the pose that you were drawn to.

TRUST YOUR WEDDING PLANNER

Sometimes your wedding planner will suggest replacing one idea for another or not doing something at all. There is always a solid reason behind the advice.

A wedding planner doesn't want to crush your dreams. Our recommendations are based ONLY on their experiences and expertise.

Obviously, it depends on which planner you are working with - but in general, if you’re working with an experienced planner, negotiating ideas and proposing only the best for you will be a major part of their responsibilities.

A professional wedding planner can do wonders for minimizing the amount of stress that you’ll have to deal with on your wedding day, just by organizing your ideas and prioritizing them.

Any decision we make for your elopement will always be with your best interest in mind.
